Omaha Metro Stars strives to provide a safe and exciting environment to introduce children to the world of gymnastics. Research
demonstrates that children learn best through exploration. Through our specially designed classes, young children will have the opportunity
to explore their physical abilities and the environment around them. Our focus will be the development of basic motor skills, balance,
coordination, confidence, and social interaction. Through gymnastics, children can maximize their growth and development. Each of our
recreational classes will target a specific age group. In the descriptions that follow, the goals and target audience of each class are
outlined.
Little Dippers classes are for boys and girls that are able to walk independently and are under 3 years old. The 45 minute class will introduce the children to basic gymnastics positions, simple tumbling skills, and a wide variety of gymnastics equipment. In addition to learning gymnastics, the children will also learn valuable social skills, like following directions given by the instructors and taking turns with peers. The child will attend this class with their parent.
Big Dippers classes are for boys and girls that are at least 2.5 years old, but are not yet 4 years old. This 45 minute class will instill fundamental gymnastics positions, teach basic tumbling skills, and enhance the child's flexibility and motor coordination. The children will also have an opportunity to enhance their social skills with team building activities and peer interaction. The child will attend this class independently.
Shooting Stars classes are for boys and girls that are at least 4 years old, but have not yet turned 6 years old. This 50 minute class will introduce children to more advanced gymnastics positions, teach intermediate tumbling skills, and continue to improve the child's flexibility, coordination and strength. They will also be introduced to all of the Olympic events, including vault, bars, balance beam, floor exercise, parallel bars, rings, and pommel horse. Additionally, the child will continue to improve their social interactions, helping them to prepare for kindergarten. The child will attend this class independently.
Shining Stars classes are for girls that are 5 years old with prior gymnastics experience at Omaha Metro Stars Gymnastics or girls that are 6 years old. This 50 minute class will teach the children advanced gymnastics positions, further their tumbling skills, and continue to enhance the child's flexiblity, coordination, and strength. During each class, the girls will focus on one of the four Olympic events, namely vault, uneven bars, balance beam, or floor exercise. As the children progress, they will also begin to learn simple gymnastics routines. The child will attend this class independently.
Beginner Girls classes are for girls that are 7 years old and up. This 50 minute class will teach the children advanced gymnastics positions, further their tumbling skills, and continue to enhance the child's flexiblity, coordination, and strength. During each class, the girls will focus on one of the four Olympic events, namely vault, uneven bars, balance beam, or floor exercise. As the children progress, they will also begin to learn simple gymnastics routines.
Intermediate Girls classes are for girls that have mastered a wide variety of skills on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise, and is by permission only. This 50 minute class will further improve the child's gymnastics skills on the four Olympic events. Additionally, the girls will learn more advanced gymnastics routines.
Super Novas classes are for boys 6 years old and up. This 50 minute class will teach the children advanced gymnastics positions, further their tumbling skills, and continue to enhance the child's flexiblity, coordination, and strength. Each class the boys will focus on one of the six Olympic events, namely floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar. As the children progress, they will also begin to learn simple gymnastics routines. The child will attend this class independently.
Special Stars classes are for boys and girls ages 1 through 12 years who present with differing abilities. Children will be given the opportunity to explore their physical abilities and their environment despite physical or mental challenges. This class will be taught by an occupational therapist trained in physical and cognitive disabilities.
Children are initially placed in classes by age. As the child gains gymnastics experience and becomes familiar with the curriculum, they will progress through the program. It is essential to continually address the child's needs based not only on age, but also on the child's ability. It will be up to the discretion of the instructors if a child is to progress based upon ability rather than age.
