The Women's Artistic Team at Metro Stars Gymnastics currently consists of girls ages 5 and older. The athletes compete in the USA Gymnastics organization, the governing body of gymnastics in the U.S., and the organization that selects the girls to represent our country in the Olympic Games. The compulsory levels (level 2, 3, 4, and 5) compete in the fall with their state meet in December, while the optional levels (level 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10) compete in the spring with their state meet in late March. The practice days and times vary based on level.
The Women's team at Metro Stars is lead by Jesus "Mr. V" Vazquez. He began his gymnastics career as an age group gymnast at Omaha Sokol, and was a member of Omaha South High School's first state championship team in 1976. In college, Jesus was the first and only NCAA All-American gymnast at the University of Northern Iowa. At the ripe old age of 15 he began his coaching career, and because of that seemingly simple decision, gymnastics has taken him all over the world! His coaching experience includes 13 years of collegiate coaching as both an assistant and a head coach, over 10 years as the program director at the Lake Owen Gymnastics Camp, and more than 20 years working with top coaches and programs as a highly sought after clinician! To this day, Jesus still cherishes the opportunity to help his athletes and staff realize their potential in both gymnastics and in life. In his spare time he enjoys, bible studies, spending time with his family, and the great outdoors!
